CNHC

The Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)

CNHC is the UK voluntary regaulator for complementary helthcare prectitioners that was set up with the government support to protect the public by providing a UK voluntary register of complementary therapists.
CNHC’s register has been approved as an Accredited Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care. This means CNHC has met the Professional Standards Authority’s demanding standards.
All CNHC registered practitioners are entitled to use CNHC’s quality mark which demonstrates a commitment to professionalism and high standards. The public and those who commission the services of complementary
healthcare practitioners can choose with confidence, by looking for the CNHC quality mark.

CNHC Registration

CNHC recognises The Reiki Association as a verifying body for CNHC registration and we encourage members to register in order to gain the CNHC quality mark.

Members wishing to register can read more information here, and about the actual verification process here, where a ‘Request to register’ from is available to download

Professional Advantages of CNHC Registration

To find out more about the benefits of registering with CNHC visit the CNHC website at www.cnhc.org.uk/why-cnhc

  • National Occupational Standards (NOS)

The National Occupational Standards (NOS) are statements describing the knowledge and understanding an individual needs to demonstrate to be safe and competent to practise. Skills for Health, an independent agency, is responsible for establishing NOS across a wide range of health care disciplines, including many complementary therapies.

You must declare that:

  • you have current professional indemnity insurance to practise in the UK
  • you will respond to any request from CNHC for evidence of professional indemnity insurance and CPD activities
  • Any identified False declaration results in removal from the CNHC register.

To be eligible to register with CNHC you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have undertaken a programme of education and training which meets, as a minimum, the National Occupational Standards (see below) and the core curriculum for the discipline concerned. Please note, courses delivered entirely by distance learning do not meet CNHC requirements.
  • OR

  • Have achieved competency to the level of the National Occupational Standards (see below) for the discipline concerned by means of relevant experience of at least three years and relevant training and been assessed as having met those standards.

Registration with the CNHC for Reiki Practitioners

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • The aim of the CNHC’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Policy is to ensure that standards and requirements are maintained and updated regularly.
  • You will need to confirm at renewal that you have undertaken CPD activities over the previous registration year. CPD is not just about doing courses. Many people think that only formal courses or seminars count towards CPD but there are a wide range of activities you can include.
  • The Reiki Association organises and supports many workshops, retreats, training days and other events for its members which can be regarded as supporting professional development. Certificates for CPD can be provided.
  • Make sure you keep a record of any CPD activity you do throughout the year. Registrants need to complete a CPD log for each registration year. It will be far easier to complete the CNHC CPD log as you go along.
